Committee Description:

The Journal of Breast Imaging seeks a new Associate Editor for the Science of Screening. Qualified candidates should submit their application, letter of interest (see prompts below), and include a CV. This is a volunteer position (non-funded) that will serve on the JBI Editorial Board. Candidate can expect to spend 2 hours per week in support of this role.

The ideal candidate must have the following:

  1. A strong knowledge of the existing literature related to all aspects of screening for breast cancer, author of prior article(s) on screening (specific to Sci of Screening).
  2. Ability to recruit authors to write 6 articles per year and provide guidance to authors about the scope of articles.
  3. Experience with writing scientific articles. 
  4. Experience reviewing for JBI and radiology journals.
  5. Willingness or experience with online journal submission and review software.

Associate Editor Roles and Responsibilities

The Associate Editors play a vital role to the health of JBI. They are instrumental in providing input and feedback to the Editor. They develop and provide a vision for journal content.

The Responsibilities of the Associate Editors of JBI include:

  1. Develop a vision for content for the academic year and solicit papers to provide that content.
  2. Ensure that content is adequate by having extra supply in the pipeline to account for author delay, rejection of some invited papers, and revision cycles.
  3. Log in to the ScholarOne site at least twice per week to assess status of content in your area.
  4. Assign reviewers within 7 days of submission, but preferably less than 5 days. Often 3-4 reviewers must be assigned to obtain at least 2 high quality reviews.
  5. Make a recommendation to the editor promptly upon receiving reviews, generally within 2-3 days.
  6. Once the paper is nearing acceptance (usually after major revision is complete), review the paper and make your own recommendations for improvement including style consistent with JBI.
  7. Actively engage several faculty to take on more responsibility to develop candidates to take on the AE role when your term is complete.

Additional specific responsibilities:

  1. Inviting and assigning reviewers for submitted articles
  2. Render decision and recommendation to the Chief Editor for accept or reject based on reviews
  3. Attend monthly 1 hour Associate Editor meetings to discuss article proposals, recruitment, submissions across all sections of the journal
  4. Attend 2 Editorial Board Meetings per year, in April/May and November/December timeframe, to coincide with SBI annual meeting and the RSNA.

Term:

Term for initial AE appointment is 2-3 years at Editor in Chief recommendation, with a one-time 3-year renewable appointment.
